Lily smiled as she ran one hand slowly across the top of both of her brother’s and her father’s grave. Now that she was not so sad about it anymore, she felt them both standing beside her and Lexington giving them both smiles and to her reassuring words about how much they could like Lex more if he married her. That would not happen anytime soon, she thought to herself with a sigh as she took a step back and smiled as they disappeared from her head. She knew that she would be just fine with her mother, Nolana and of course Lex at her side. She smirked a bit at the memory once again, but smiled squeezing Lex’s arm gently.

“Thank you, you’re wonderful you know that I hope. Aspen would have been honored to serve along with you, Sir Larson and the rest of the Knights of Dawn if he had chosen to keep at it however our father wanted him to take over the business and he did. Did your parents wish for you to join the Knights? I apologize if that is too personal since we don’t ever really talk about your family besides your twin brother.” Lily asked him softly yet full of curiosity.
The silence was welcoming to her as they made their way towards the large conservatory where her family spent most of their time at. She opened the doors and took his hand in hers leading him around before showing off the portraits of her and her immediate family members so Lex could see what her father and brother looked like if he didn’t know already.

“Our family divides the work between us and our workers. We make the decisions about where we want certain flowers and while most of them are outside with the beautiful weather, the plants and flowers that are tropical and can live anywhere reside in here. We all have certain places we work and mine and Nolana work mostly in the back with the exotic and tropical plants and flowers to experiment with them and watch them grow especially if we haven’t had them before. However my favorite flowers are both inside and outside, mostly outside though. I love obviously lilies but also roses and daisies. They are beautiful and simple, come in many colors and can have several different meanings.” Lily explained with a smile.

Lexington thought about her question, thinking back to his childhood. It seemed now like a life of the sword had been a given all along, but it hadn't always been the case. "I don't know if they wished it, but it was always the likeliest option for us. Our family was once very big, and we were from the lowest branch. It was pretty much either knighthood or learning a trade, and both Larson and I figured that taking a living from a sword was much more exciting than making a living from an axe." He chuckled, remembering the grand ideas of knighthood he and Lars had entertained before their training had begun.

The conservatory doors opened and a wave of humid heat reached out to meet them as they stepped inside. He paused to consider the portraits as Lily pointed them out, remarking in his own mind about how young Lily and Nolana looked. The whole family was a handsome one, the children each an attractive mix of the parents. Aspen had been a stout-looking lad, and Lex could see how he could have made a good knight, if history had gone differently.

He listened as she explained the logistics of how the work got done, his eyes roaming curiously among the different planting beds, and the tables laden with pots and jars of chemicals, racks of tools hanging above. "It all sounds much more complicated than I'd expected," he said with a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. "You experiment with flowers? Like, trying to develop different colors? Or more complex than that?" He was intrigued now, as he hadn't necessarily known what Lily's work entailed on a day-to-day basis. "And what is this about flowers having meanings?" He didn't comment on her favorite flowers, but he did make a mental note of it, storing that knowledge away for later days when it might come in handy.

Lily smiled at the image that was forming in her head of a younger Lexington and Larson dueling one another when they were teenagers hating the idea of taking up a trade. It was very logical and she could tell that being Knights made them stronger, independent, understand people. Lex and Larson were incredibly smart, kind and hard-working, all of them traits to be admired by anyone who appreciated the sacrifices they made on a daily basis to protect and serve others around them, “I would have loved to see the two of you duel at such a young age. I’m sure there were many competitions to see who could best the other. I just hope you let Sir Larson win every now and then.” Lily replied winking with a playful grin on her face as they entered her second home on the property.

She showed him bits and pieces of the conservatory and he began to ask questions. She gave him a smile before taking out a pair of clippers and taking off a rose that was done growing. It was yellow and she smiled while handing it to him, “Yes I am sure that you do not wish for me to describe the different meanings of the flowers for that will take until the rest of the night and will bore you to death. However the colors are easy to remember, yellow means friendship and happiness. Pink and red are for love, white means peace, orange means confidence and satisfaction with life. Green means optimism and sometimes pleasure. Blue is actually what we call a stress reliever color, it represents peacefulness. A study by my father and Nolana have shown that people with blue flowers tend to not be as stressed. We did it as an experiment once and it was proven correctly. Purple is the color of royalty as you know already, lavender is represented as a form of feminine beauty. It represents elegance, grace and refinement. This color of peach pink is mostly used for sympathy reasons; we received lots of those when my brother and father died. That’s pretty much all the colors, if you come across a brown or black flower, it is not normal.” Lily explained with a smile as she watched him accept her flower. She smiled as she lead him outside the side door becoming humid and sweaty inside in her nice, fancy gown.

“Now that is pretty much our castle and it’s grounds. We are known for the gardens and conservatory as you know already, but that is about it. We spend the majority of our time and day outside so we do not think about other things. The stables and barns are down that hall. I love riding horses although I have not done that in a very long time.” She trailed off with a soft sigh as she looped her arm through his and lead him back towards the castle so they can get prepared for dinner that evening. Even though their week was halfway over, she still cherished every moment with Lex.

"Every now and again," Lexington said wryly. He and his twin were very evenly matched, and had been so nearly all their lives, but getting the chance to rag on him while he wasn't around to defend himself was too good to pass up. Even as their different styles had emerged and developed, their spars almost always ended in a draw. Sometimes, though, that only increased hostilities, and on very rare occasions they'd had to be pulled apart. Such stories weren't right for delicate company, though.

As Lily ran through the list of colors and their meanings, Lexington listened with keener interest than he'd expected. He found it strangely fascinating that the color of a flower could say so much. He tried to think of the times he'd given someone flowers...the most recent, of course, was the waterlily he'd given to her, which had apparently meant peace? But that fit, since he'd been trying to comfort her after the deaths in her family. He had given a girl a bright orange flower once, but he'd not felt particularly confident or satisfied with life at the time. But this new knowledge gave him pause, and he could see how it could be incredibly useful. He'd have to try hard to remember it.

Lifting the rose up, he let the soft petals brush against his nose as he inhaled. It smelled beautiful, and as he brought it back down he held it carefully, not wishing to bruise the delicate thing in his rough hands. Stepping back outside, the evening air was bracing after the humidity of the conservatory. Lexington breathed in deeply, twirling the rose by the stem between three fingers. "You've a beautiful home," he said appreciatively. "I think if I hadn't been a knight, I would have been lucky to find a job which would allow me to be outside all day, especially if I could have done it in a place like this. There aren't open fields and sky much back in Heather's Moor." He loved the closeness of the forest, how the light dappled down to the ground through the leaves and the world seemed a little more mystical, but there was something about the open sky and long vistas of places like Devonshire that he found wonderful, as well. "If ever I can take you to visit there, we'll have to go riding; there's nothing quite like the beauty of riding through the forest in the morning, when things are still quiet and calm from the night before."

Putting his hand over hers where it rested on his arm, he walked with her back toward the castle. It was getting to be the sort of hour where if he were alone with Lily it would be less than acceptable, and he didn't want to cause any distress during his visit. As they reached the castle doors, he opened one for her and followed her in, and together they walked toward their separate chambers. "Thank you, very much, for showing me around, Lily. I truly enjoyed it."

Lily grinned as she nudged him a tiny bit, “Now Sir Larson has been nothing but kind and helpful towards me so far and a part of me should side with him since he did arrange for you to spend a week out here with me, however, I do believe that you two were equally talented so I imagine that you both displayed excellent sportsmanship unless one was sneaky enough to cheat or something.” Lily said teasing him a bit with a smile as she watched him enjoy the rose that had given him which was yellow. A sign of friendship when she actually wanted more. However that decision was not hers, it was Lex’s and who knows what he thought of her beyond a friend. Sir Larson had insisted that his twin brother thought very fondly of her and encouraged her to act upon her feelings, but she was simply too shy.

“No matter what you decide to do in your lifetime Lex, you will be wonderful and dedicated at it. You are a wonderful, hard-working, brave knight and the Knights of Dawn are lucky to have a man like you in their employment however I will say this…if you ever wish to change your profession then you always will have a job here if you want. My home is always here for you if and whenever you want to return back to Devonshire. As for your home, I would love to see it one day. I shall go whenever you call upon me.” She told him confidently teasing him a bit about the secondary job as she looped her arm through his and he escorted back to the castle seeing the darkness of the night arriving too soon for her liking. She smiled when he reached his free hand over to caress hers still tingling from his soft touch.

He helped her up the stairs and stopped in front of her chambers. He had given her a smile and thanked her for the tour, “It was my pleasure Lex. The castle and grounds are yours to explore at anytime. I quite enjoyed taking you around myself, those were obviously my own favorite rooms. I shall see you for breakfast in the morning. Sleep well…my Lex.” She said with a smile as she reluctantly released herself from his arms and hugged him gently before leaning over and kissing his cheek very softly. Slowly releasing him, Lily smiled at him once more before opening her door and closing it gently behind her. She slid against it with a bright smile before going to enjoy a peaceful, quiet evening to herself and her own thoughts which would be occupied by the amazing knight staying with her.
