All original wonderfulness goes to Friday. Only edits made by Dan that were kept include the name changes and bits about Lina; these are in bold. My own additions will be in italics!

    Character Name: Elliot Beaumarche
Character Age: 27 [as of 218]
    Gender: Male
    Birthday: November 17th, 191
    Current Location: Slate Valley
    House: Beaumarche
    Crest Appearance

House Description/History: The Beaumarche family has held residence in Slate Valley for longer than most can remember, tracing their lineages back all the way to when the first Kings were seated in Hebron. Legend tells that the Beaumarche family was forged from the ore and precious gem deposits from the mines of the valley itself, of which the Beaumarche family holds a great monopoly. The Beaumarche's are known to be devout worshippers of the Pantheon, Ruzbin in particular. The first Beaumarche's erected a humble temple in the heart of Slate Valley, to present offerings to the patron god of smith's and metal-workers. Slate Valley is renowned for it's forges, and boasts some of the realm's most impressive smiths, and although Slate Valley does not possess a hospitable climate, often shrouded in clouds and general poor weather, knights and lords come from afar to make orders of special swords and weapons from the master smiths that reside in the city.

Slate Valley is one of the closest cities to the capital of Tuneric, and as such as a major hub of activity and trade, drawing in merchants traveling from the outskirts of Hellfire Ridge on their way to the major markets of Hebron. This is beneficial for Slate Valley, for most of the food and perishable goods must be purchased from outside the city, as the land of the Valley is hard to toil and often yields unimpressive crops. Each winter, on the first of December, the residents of Slate Valley host a celebration called the Night of Fallen Stars in Ruzbin's honor, to thank him for his prosperity of the past year, in hopes of continuing into the next. It is marked by the firing of the hundreds of forges in the Valley, in which the families that possess them, or even passerby's, may offer sacrifices of metal or possessions into the blazing forges. The Beaumarche family spends that very same evening traveling throughout the valley in a show of comradery with their subordinates, offering up jewels and trinkets to sate Ruzbin's fires. This particular festival is native only to Slate Valley, and is rather jovial in intent.

Appearance: The trials of his young life have life Elliot with a look of a man far older than his true age. The harsh climate and lifestyle of Slate Valley has left his skin weathered and leathery, his bright blue eyes often ringed with dark circles. Elliot keeps his hair long, not one for pompous appearances, often sporting a thick beard that helps to keep the cold of the Valley from his face. But his smile is kind, however rare it may be seen, and Lord Beaumarche is known for his warm laughter and gentle touch. He wears simple knight's garb, and the phoenix of the Beaumarche crest is embroidered on most of his belongings, as is fitting a Lord of the family.

Personality: Elliot is and always will be his father's son. From his teens, Elliot has been a knight whose outward demeanor reflects the terrain around him; rugged, stoic, enduring. He was never a young man of great warmth or outwardly expressed passion, but one of quiet humility, respect, and honor. Elliot showed only tenderness towards his immediate family, and spoke with great brevity and understanding. He had a special fondness for solitude, known to prefer waking in the early morning hours while the rest of his household still slept, and taking to the hills to hunt. Naturally shy, Elliot seemed only to bloom in the diplomatic field of discourse, eloquent when discussing politics and trade, but bumbling and inept when it comes to holding a pleasant conversation with a pretty young woman.

Personal History: Elliot was born on a chilly day in November in the year 191, the third child to Timeo and Elena Beaumarche. From the beginning, he was a simple soul, a young boy content to toddle after his older brothers, fidget during his lessons, and play at swords in the courtyard. Life in the Valley is not an easy one, and Elliot was accustomed at a young age to the harsh realities of living there. But for a time, the Beaumarche family was blessed; Elena Beaumarche gave birth to eight children in all, and their lives were intertwined in their successes; handsome, charismatic Liam, born to take his father's place and possess of the love of the people of Slate Valley; Finn, the playboy, whose quick wit had them all taken with his charm; Elliot, with broad shoulders and solemn demeanor, destined to be a Knight of the realm. Rose, the first daughter, whose beauty caught the trained eye of men, even from distant cities; the twins, Emma and Ryan, two halves of a whole. The third and last daughter, Lina, came into the world without the blessing of sight, and her blindness was a cause for concern and sadness, though not outright despair. Her disability was accommodated as best as possible in the busy, active, happy family and she was certainly loved no less than any of her more "normal" siblings. Mateo came last, another boy in a family full of robust, boisterous sons. For a while, they all lived in the happiness that was their family, their triumphs and failures all intertwined.

Liam was always ambitious, and the heir to the Beaumarche name was hungry from the moment he became a young man and saw what was available to him in Tuneric. A man of action, their Lord father Timeo sent some of his children to the great markets of Hebron every six months, to renew trade agreements and help in peddling the famed longswords of the Valley, and also in attempt to make his children invested in the lifeblood that was Slate Valley commerce. Liam was immediately enamored of the prosperity that he saw in the great cities, and set his sights on furthering the Beaumarche name. For a while, he was nothing but victorious; even in his early twenties, Liam Beaumarche was known far and wide for his exemplary personality, charming lesser lords into trade agreements and enticing shipping rights that expanded the Beaumarche hand of influence. For a time, he was untouchable, and all of Timeo Beaumarche's children could see the pride within which he spoke about his eldest son and heir. In the meantime, the rest of the Beaumarche children cultivated their own skills; Finn was an apprentice to his brother's talents, and Elliot was a promising young squire. Rose helped to look after the younger children while effectively thwarting off her myriad of suitors, and Emma and Ryan were never far from one another. Ryan was showing great promise in the forges, apprenticed to one of the master smiths of the city. They all seemed to ride out on the coattails of their eldest brother's fortunes. There was no stopping the heights that Liam was reaching for -- he was soaring.

But one day, Liam reached too far.

Liam was convicted of treason to the Crown, having been found to be in league with raiders who hailed from Brassford, men who had been sworn to support Liam's ultimate goal -- domination of Hellfire Ridge. When the news finally broke, it was shocking to all -- especially to his family. For years, Liam had been strengthening political ties and supplanting the family's coffers for one goal; usurp the position of the Hallward family in Stone Forge, ridding himself of their line while obtaining their sumptuous lands. It would be complete overthrow of the social hierarchy in the Ridge, a veritable threat to peace throughout all of Tuneric. Although Liam was never one to be sloppy, he was found out, revealed. Incriminating documents and eyewitnesses paraded before a disbelieving Lord Timeo and the knights representatives sent to Slate Valley by the crown to deal with the matter, and within a week it was surmised that the second son, Finn, had been privy to Liam's treachery the entire time. The Beaumarche family was in disbelief.

However, Finn went missing within the fortnight, escaped, having been awaiting his and Liam's conviction in Brassford. Instead, their cell was found vacant, save for a despondent Liam, and it was assumed Finn took for the mountains. A hunt was set out, but he was never found, and although a watch was set about Slate Valley, should the brother attempt to make contact with his family, no word of his sighting has been spoken. Charged for his crimes, Liam was taken to Hebron, to be executed by the King's command for his attempt to despoil the harmony of Tuneric and the plotted attempt on the life of a fellow noble. Elliot can remember every moment of his brother's conviction in detail, a haunting image that often plays out in his mind late at night.

They were not allowed to take his body back to Slate Valley.

And within months, the peace of the Beaumarche family fell asunder, bit by bit. Timeo never recovered from the loss of his eldest son, and he took ill by that very same winter, a pervasive cough that could be heard ringing throughout the family estate, and one particularly cold evening, Lord Beaumarche took to his bed and did not rise the next day. Ryan was devastated by the loss of his eldest brothers, and became a recluse, pulling away from his twin and the rest of his family, taking to spending his days trapping in the hills with the fur-traders until one day, he too, did not return. A search party was sent out, but all trace of the boy is gone. Some assumed he died -- others, desertion. But more than one mouth has professed the belief that Ryan was with Finn, having left his family, angered by their unwillingness to intervene for Liam's life. Emma spent the entire year in silence, folded within herself with grief for the loss of her twin, unable to be reached by her siblings -- and in 215, Rose gave birth to daughter, out of wedlock, fathered by a man she will not name. Disgraced, Rose remains unwed, no longer considered to be the precious match she once was. It took all of Elliot's strength to keep them together, and more than once, he feared they were beyond repair. But Beaumarche's were as hard as the iron and steel that was forged in the fires of Slate Valley -- and they persevered.

It has not been easy rebuilding. For a time, Slate Valley suffered for the follies of Liam Beaumarche, the trade of the city taking a sharp decline. The Hallward's wanted justice, and they received it -- the once thriving city was now crumbling at its foundations. The Beaumarche family had to pay a substantial debt of recompense to the Hallward's, lending the leading family an even greater powerful hold over the rest of Hellfire Ridge. For a brief time, the Beaumarche family was reduced to just surviving, trying to maintain their hold upon Slate Valley and struggle with the ever-depleting coffers. But the people of Slate Valley, nonetheless, remained stalwart behind their Lords, understanding that the crimes of one brother should not rest on the shoulders of the next. Elliot stepped forward resolutely into his new position, setting forth to renew the trade lines that once flowed like a mighty river through the Valley, taking deposits of the Beaumarche's own coin to help keep the struggling forges alive and the fires burning throughout the night. For a time, the Beaumarche's were near poverty, releasing their servants and household staff, attempting to stay above the water. Slate Valley saw some of it's best smiths reluctantly depart, not being able to shoulder the stigma of the city, while others remained rooted in their forges, their loyalty running deeper than the need to fill their pockets.

Present day finds the Beamarche family beginning to rise from the ashes, much like the new insignia Elliot adopted for his family four years after his brother was executed. Trade has once more become prominent in the Valley; albeit, not like its former glory, but with promise. The Beaumarche family remains humbled by it's experiences, however, and in turn has strengthened its connections with the people of the Valley. The past March has marked off the final payment of debt to the Hallward's, and so their icy hand has slowly begun to retreat from their lands. Rumors still circle, of course; of Finn and Ryan's whereabouts, of Elliot's competency as Lord. Of a bad blood that remains between the Hallward's and the Beaumarche's, and if and when that beast will rear it's ugly head once more. But Elliot ignores the whispers as best as any man could, and carries on. He must. It is his duty.

The arrival of Balfourian forces came with a call to arms to all those in Tuneric, and Elliot, a man of his word and of his proud lineage, rightly left behind his family and answered the call. While his service was brief but devout, with no real accomplishments to speak of, the Beaumarche lord returned to Slate Valley with a slight limp on his right side, from a lance taken to the leg. Although cumbersome, this new affliction would prove to be the least of the Lord of Slate Valley's hurdles; and as the plague that spread throughout Tuneric began to grip most of the populace, the Beaumarche family as a whole retreated to its natural state of seclusion. The drop-off of trade in wake of the crippling disease, traveling through hubs and port cities, did not spare the Valley from the effects of the creeping miasma; but the Beaumarche family found itself singularly lucky -- not a head among them fell to the dark disease.

Still, the most important turn of events occurred in early May -- when, after eight years of being missing and presumed dead, the Beaumarche family awoke to Finn Beaumarche, hobbling home in the early morning light. If possible, the return of their missing brother has lain the reclusive family to fold even further in on themselves; a desperate wish to keep Finn's presence a secret, to protect his former whereabouts and keep the people of the Ridge from seeking the justice they were denied so long ago. No one save his family knows Finn is alive, and Elliot is determined to keep that secret secure -- for more reasons than his own family might understand.

"Here, let me help you with that."

Elliot hadn't heard Rose's voice, calling out to him from across the yard; his own ears filled with the sounds of his heavy breathing, trying to ignore the hitch in his muscle, the dull pain growing to a persistent throb in his right leg. Usually, carting the water from the well didn't cause him this much stress. And yet he recognized he kept thinking of the then -- the then that was nearly a year and a half ago, when he hadn't borne these scars. Elliot blinked through a ruffle of his long hair to see his younger sister moving to his side, a faint, condemning smile gracing her lips. She reached for the weathered rope, but Elliot grunted, shaking his head briefly. "No, Rose, I've -- I've got --" he said through parched lips, trying to re-shift the strap upon his shoulder.

It was only then did he look past her, towards the double-doors of their modest manse, which lay open a crack. He could see his brother's face lingering in the doorway, a man of the shadows now; he did not miss the pain etched on Finn's face.

Finn, who longed for the sun and the mountain crevices, and could not hazard to embrace them.

He made a motion as if to move across the threshold, to assist Elliot, but the Beaumarche lord held up his free hand with a sharp gesture to halt. He could do this on his own. He did everything, on his own.

One thing I noticed that you might want to address...in what you added to the history, you said: "The Valley was not spared of the effects of the creeping miasma, but its effectively secluded trade routes and generally inhospitable nature to vagabonds kept the area relatively sealed."

However, in the house description, it says: "Slate Valley is one of the closest cities to the capital of Tuneric, and as such as a major hub of activity and trade, drawing in merchants traveling from the outskirts of Hellfire Ridge on their way to the major markets of Hebron."

I imagine this is just a quirk of wording, but it reads as being a bit contradictory. It's true that trade dropped off significantly while the plague ran rampant, but as the closest city to Tuneric I'd say the trade routes themselves can't really be considered secluded.

Aside from that though the profile looks good! Address that and send off any secrets Elliot might have and you should be golden.

Edited! Pardon the blunder. Let me know if that change works, and if there is anything else that sticks out. I know I am canvassing two years time with just a few sentences. Secrets sent, as well.
