    House Description/History:

Castle Claim - Casa di Risate e Lacrime (represented by Villa del Balbianello)

The Mauritanni Family of performers has a well defined history throughout the Isles of Balfour. They have been playing to crowds as gauche as the Royal Family, and to mobs as poor as peasants in tent communities. Varied in disciplines, they are all trained actors, putting on plays of their own conception as well as classics from far more golden ages of the past. Individually, they number singers, tumblers, jugglers, dancers and artists.

Though their waterfront estate is closer to both Lawnbury and Chatlawn, the Mauritanni family is beholden to the Hutchinsons of Chesbrook, who have been their patrons for the last fifty years. They play the giant Festival of Rebirth to celebrate the new year, every winter in Fort Chesbook, debuting a new play, as well as performing a handfull of others over a fourteen day period. Throughout the rest of the year they travel, playing sponsored events for lords, and random performances for the local folk of Balfour.

Given to substantial wealth from both their patron and their sponsors, the Mauritannis are free to play when and where they like, or to retire comfortably at any time. They are extremely family oriented, and have a strong patriarchal build. Though they don’t always see eye to eye, this very large family is tight knit, and tend to live to extremely old age.

    Played By/Face Claim: Christopher Plummer

    Appearance:

Handsome and refined, Guiseppe is always dressed well, unless in costume. His soft eyes belay many years of determination and strong values, and he has done remarkably well maintaining his hair in his advancing years.

Blessed with piercing blue eyes, and originally gifted with dark hair, he has a smooth voice and very steady hands.

    Personality:

The current patriarch of the Mauritanni family, Giuseppe is a wizened old performer, knowledgeable in most of the arts. Having been an active member in the family business for more than seventy-five years, he is calm with the younger generations, but firm with his own children. He values discipline above all else, and firmly believes that even in his advanced years, there is still room to grow and improve in his abilities.

A stout negotiator, Giuseppe enjoys a good relationship with the Hutchinson family as well as the Farrand-Calhouns. He is willing to forgo payments from less affluent clients in exchange for goods and services, and is charitable despite his wealth and position.

He is a lover of animals and sailing, but has never considered another woman since the death of his wife some twenty-two years past.

    Personal History:

The eldest son of Frederico Mauritanni, the contortionist, Giuseppe was born in 134, one of many cousins and soon to be older brother of a handful of siblings. Until the age of nine, he was raised and trained in the ways of animals, learning the differences in all his family’s performing beasts, including how to train and breed them.

As he got older, the boy began to learn his own performing specialty, which was juggling. He had a natural aptitude for it, and by the time he was fourteen, he could juggle a dozen plates at a time.

Guiseppe married seventeen year old Marguerita Selerno the day he turned twenty-eight, and together they had six sons and five daughters, the last child taking her life at age fifty-one. Since her death, Guiseppe has put all his energy into growing his family, their wealth and their reputation, in hopes that it will flourish long after he is gone.
