    Filomena Mauritanni

    Player: Amy
    Contact: PM is best

    Character Name: Filomena Mauritanni
    Character Age: 27
    Gender: Female
    Birthday: February 4th, 191
    Current Location: Avadillia
    House: Mauritanni
    Crest Appearance:

House Description/History: The Mauritanni Family of performers has a well defined history throughout the Isles of Balfour. They have been playing to crowds as gauche as the Royal Family, and to mobs as poor as peasants in tent communities. Varied in disciplines, they are all trained actors, putting on plays of their own conception as well as classics from far more golden ages of the past. Individually, they number singers, tumblers, jugglers, dancers and artists.

Though their waterfront estate is closer to both Lawnbury and Chatlawn, the Mauritanni family is beholden to the Hutchinsons of Chesbrook, who have been their patrons for the last fifty years. They play the giant Festival of Rebirth to celebrate the new year, every winter in Fort Chesbook, debuting a new play, as well as performing a handful of others over a fourteen day period. Throughout the rest of the year they travel, playing sponsored events for lords, and random performances for the local folk of Balfour.

Given to substantial wealth from both their patron and their sponsors, the Mauritannis are free to play when and where they like, or to retire comfortably at any time. They are extremely family oriented, and have a strong patriarchal build. Though they don’t always see eye to eye, this very large family is tight knit, and tend to live to extremely old age.

    Played By/Face Claim: Miranda Kerr

Appearance: Limber and lithe, Filomena bears a figure which has been trained and toned since she was very young. Of average height, her lean limbs give her the impression of being slightly taller. Although she may lack the attractive padding most women carry, her shape is not unwomanly or unattractive, and what she lacks in shape she makes up for in grace.

Her smile is capable of lighting up a room, and dimples appear in her cheeks at even the slightest hint of amusement. Steel blue eyes peer out of an expressive face which has been largely untouched by her years, although the hints of smile lines at the corners of her eyes might just be starting to show.

Personality: Warm and loving, Filomena is happiest when she’s surrounded by her family. She takes pride in her talents, although she is careful to remain humble, and she knows she can always depend on her siblings to keep her in check. Her laugh is sweet and comes easily, and she thoroughly enjoys the life she’s been given.

Although she can be serious, especially when she’s performing, it is much more common to see a smile on her face. Her loyalty first and foremost is to her family, and she will do anything in her power to help them when a problem arises. She is somewhat ill-equipped to deal with the ugliness that life outside of her family bubble can contain, but she tries her best to keep her chin up and shrug it off.

Personal History: Born into a large but loving family, Filomena found herself in the somewhat unlikely situation where most of her siblings were also old enough to be her parents. Rather than grow up feeling stifled, though, Mena thrived. There was always someone to pay attention to her, no shortage of people to play with, and she was, although she didn’t realize it then, one of the most well-protected children ever.

From almost her first moments Filomena was like a sponge. She mimicked everything she found interesting, most likely annoying everyone in the process, but what better way to build the skills her family was famous for? Her skill with acting and singing was passable, and although she loved pulling faces with Carlo, she could never hold them without giggling. It turned out her true skill lay in acts of contortion and balance, much like Marco and her grandfather. Guided by their expert advice, Filomena is now an incredibly accomplished contortionist and aerialist.

Writing Sample: With half her attention, Filomena was listening to the exchanges on the stage; they were nearly finished with their act, and she was next to go on. The other half of her mind was focused on the stretches she needed to do before she took the stage, and even though they were second nature, she still needed to mind them. The last time she’d shirked them, she’d had a leg cramp while balanced on her hands, and that sort of thing was never good.

Feet flat on the floor, she folded easily in half, arms crossed behind her back and her hands on the opposite elbow. She relaxed until the top of her head touched the floor, and stayed there for a long moment, breathing slowly. It was time to bring her mind into focus, and silence all the other noise.

A few more forms and then she heard her name, whispered in a familiar voice. “Mena! You’re on!”
