    Edward Fairfax

    Character Name: Edward Fairfax
    Character Age: 33
    Gender: Male
    Birthday: December 15th, 185
    Current Location: Ferrers Court, Suffolk
    House: Fairfax
    Crest Appearance:

    House Description/History:

House Fairfax dates back to the Cult of Mink-Asa crisis. Originally a group of family ran farms in Suffolk, the Fairfax were one of the first to rise up against the Cultist following the boy King's rescue. The Fairfax family nearly died out from the purging of the lands, and for their reward, they were elevated into Nobility. Loyal servants of the new Monarchy, they ruled Suffolk and its surrounding farmlands, keeping the kingdom supplied with food and resources from livestock such as wool, leather and milk. Their control of the Suffolk has lasted since then, but relations between Fairfax and the rest of the realm have all but disappeared. The speculation is that Robert Fairfax II, was outraged at other lower families advancing beyond Fairfax, despite nearly 200 years of loyal service and their part in the forming of the new Monarchy. Suffolk for a brief period became an isolationist, only speaking beyond their own territory for marrying off their sons and daughters to other noble families and for selling their wares.

In 211, Thaddeus Fairfax died leaving his four orphaned children to keep the Fairfax Dynasty going, without their mother who had died in childbirth with Victoria. Thaddeus however, was a shrewd businessman and left his children with a large amount of wealth. The eldest Thomas Fairfax, despite being heir, did not want the responsibility of being the Lord of Suffolk. His younger brother Edward, at 26, took the reins of House Fairfax and has spent the last 5 years totally modernizing their assets and pumping money into their industry. To this day, Fairfax remains a hold of agriculture and livestock rearing. But beyond that, Edward Fairfax has constructed the large palace of Ferrers Court (in honour of his late mother's family). With Edward's love of music, drinking, feasts and eating, tourneys, hunting and of course women, Suffolk has become newly popular with the Gentry. Noblemen and women alike, often come to the Edward's court which almost rivals that of the Royal family. Some see it as a getaway from their duties, some as a great place to meet potential lovers and spouses and some to network with other members of the Gentry. One thing they can all agree on, is if you want fun: you head to Suffolk; and Ferrers Court.

Now once again, the Fairfax family is finally being pushed back into the hearts and minds of the common people and of the Monarchy. Edward Fairfax intends to bring back the honour and glory of House Fairfax and to claim the recognition and reward that this historical family are owed.

The crest of Fairfax was originally a golden griffin upon a red shield, but when the family had multiple marriages in a short period of time, with the Loren family: the Loren golden fleur de lys upon blue was quartered with the Fairfax crest; and it has remained so ever since.

Played By/Face Claim: Jonathan Rhys Meyers

    Appearance:

A dark haired man with intense grey eyes, Edward is suitably dressed for any occasion. Mere tunics, doublets and trousers would not do for this man. The man insists on quality fabrics, perfect execution and dressing to impress when the situation calls for it. Edward is the Lord of Suffolk, host of grand events and parties and thus he was going to look the part! The expression on his face is one of aloof pleasantness, though his eyes are constantly alert, looking for the next spot of entertainment.

    Personality:
Nothing is too fine for Edward Fairfax. Whether it be food, clothing, fine art or women, Edward appreciates high quality whenever it can be obtained or enjoyed. Naturally, such tastes tend to be expensive but that does not stop Edward. After all, the Fairfax is a very old family that has held onto its wealth for generations. He sees no problem in converting family wealth into something more tangible and thus enjoyable. Thus, if there is a particularly rare food item, Edward will seek to savor it. If there is a fine piece of art, he will add to his collection. If there is a beautiful woman, her body will be thoroughly worshipped and enjoyed.

Because he has such fine tastes, Edward tends to look down on things and people that are beneath his standard. One could describe him as charming, easygoing and the life of the party. Others, however, have described him as arrogant, haughty and superior. If a person is beneath his station, they will be treated as such. After all, Edward is the Lord of Suffolk, why should he be bothered to deal with the commoner rabble, the servants or knights of the realm? There are better people who deserve his attention.

Edward detests fighting. This is not to say that he is incapable of defending himself verbally or physically, but fighting is often such a waste of time and tends to dirty the situation. Blood and tears can ruin clothing. Cuts can scar fine skin. Why lower himself to such base behavior when it all does it makes one look like nothing more than a barely sophisticated animal? Thus, when conflict does arise, Edward will act to end it swiftly, decisively and the minimum of bloodshed, whether physical or metaphorical.

Despite his flaws, Edward does have some redeeming attributes. Family is important to him, even if he does get distracted by his pursuit of fine things. He is acutely aware of his sisters’ ambitions for greater things and realizes that good marriages would help in their endeavor. Besides, in his opinion, it was better for them to get married than himself. While he recognizes the necessity of marriage and producing an heir, the idea of being committed to one person is detestable to him. After all, there were so many fine women in the world to enjoy… why should he limit himself to just one?

Charming, arrogant, extravagant, hedonistic, clever and superior describe Edward in a nutshell. Yet, like any nut, one does not truly know what they will find until they crack it open…

    Personal History:

Edward was the second born son of Thaddeus and Catherine, but one would never have guessed it. Since the beginning, Edward has had a headstrong attitude and striving to live life to the fullest. Where Thomas was content to a quiet life with his horses, Edward wanted to see the world and let them know he was in it. On more than one occasion, Thaddeus had to bring Edward to heel if only so that the young man could focus on his lessons. Though he was not heir, Thaddeus still expected his second son to play an important role in managing the family’s assets as Edward had shown an aptitude for mathematics early on.

In addition to his love of mathematics, Edward developed a taste for quality pieces of art ranging from paintings to tapestries to sculptures. Though he had no artistic ability himself, he found himself admiring the creative beauty of artists. These tastes soon shifted to foods and other luxury items. Because Thaddeus had been so successful in managing the family business, Edward never had to worry for money and was able to spend it to acquire several pieces.

During his teenage years, his taste for women bloomed rather brightly. Nary a female was safe from Edward’s charms and affections, but the young man nonetheless did have his standards. The servants were not dallied with, only women of high standing were acceptable to him. Though his mother tried to warn him against his hedonistic ways, Edward was having entirely too much fun to slow down be it with women or with his comrades, drinking and playing the night away. Fortunately for him, he never let that get in the way of his responsibilities too much.

When he reached his early twenties, his parents attempted several marriage arrangements for his son. Every single one was cancelled or abandoned, mostly because Edward refused to commit to a single woman. With Thomas increasingly expressing his lack of desire to be Lord of Suffolk, Thaddeus attempted to impress Edward the importance of finding a wife and continuing the family line. Edward ignored these concerns, reassuring his father they had all the time in the world.

Then, at 26, tragedy struck and his parents passed away. The moment had shaken Edward, though he did his best to hide it. Perhaps life was not so lengthy as he once thought. Perhaps he truly didn’t have all the time in the world. Upon taking the seat of leadership, Edward vowed to keep the Fairfax family strong within Tuneric, spending a great deal of money to modernize all of their assets. It was a risky venture, but it was one that paid off, increasing their profits and bringing Fairfax to the forefront again.

Now it was time to find places for his sisters and cousins. Little Victoria wanted to shine in the light of Court, but he was concerned over Xavier’s influence on her. Xavier was a cousin, of course, but Edward felt Victoria could do better than chase after the dreams of a knight. Victoria deserved loftier ambitions. Or perhaps he was merely distracting himself from something just as important, such as finding himself a wife…

    Writing Sample:

"I don't care that he is 'used to the old price.' Does he not understand how the market works? If there is a hard growing year, paper production declines, supply goes down and thus we have to raise the price to cover our expenses. He is not going to find better paper in time to meet his own scribes' needs. If he wants his business to suffer, then he wait until next year and hope for a better growing season. Or buy from one of the suppliers overseas, which I guarantee you will not save him a mint." Dante's expression was cold as he gazed at the House Steward. Dante did not mean to rise his ire at the man, who was essentially only being a messenger, but that was the life of a servant.

He sighed heavily, "Send him a message. Tell him that the price is fixed. If he wants to argue, tell him to come in person and I will hopefully bash logic into his head. ... or I'll just bash into the damned wall," he waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to deal with the situation. As the steward departed, Dante found himself looking out the window of his study. It was a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining, the wind was gently wafting through the air and the birds were singing. His eyes inexorably drifted toward the willow tree. Was Angelia there? It was hard to see due to the branches.

The man decided he was done for the day. Time to see for himself what Angelia was enjoying this time around...
