    Character Name: Catherine Fairfax
    Character Age: 20
    Gender: Female
    Birthday: July 14, 196
    Current Location: Suffolk
    House: Fairfax
    Crest Appearance:

    House Description/History:

House Fairfax dates back to the Cult of Mink-Asa crisis. Originally a group of family ran farms in Suffolk, the Fairfax were one of the first to rise up against the Cultist following the boy King's rescue. The Fairfax family nearly died out from the purging of the lands, and for their reward, they were elevated into Nobility. Loyal servants of the new Monarchy, they ruled Suffolk and it's surrounding farmlands, keeping the kingdom supplied with food and resources from livestock such as wool, leather and milk. Their control of the Suffolk has lasted since then, but relations between Fairfax and the rest of the realm have all but disappeared. The speculation is that Robert Fairfax II, was outraged at other lower families advancing beyond Fairfax, despite nearly 200 years of loyal service and their part in the forming of the new Monarchy. Suffolk for a brief period became an isolationist, only speaking beyond their own territory for marrying off their sons and daughters to other noble families and for selling their wares.

In 211, Thaddeus Fairfax died leaving his four orphaned children to keep the Fairfax Dynasty going, without their mother who had died in childbirth with Victoria. Thaddeus however, was a shrewd businessman and left his children with a large amount of wealth. The eldest Thomas Fairfax, despite being heir, did not want the responsibility of being the Lord of Suffolk. His younger brother Edward, at 26, took the reigns of House Fairfax and has spent the last 5 years totally modernizing their assets and pumping money into their industry. To this day, Fairfax remains a hold of agriculture and livestock raising. But beyond that, Edward Fairfax has constructed the large palace of Ferrers Court (in honour of his late mother's family). With Edward's love of music, drinking, feasts and eating, tourneys, hunting and of course women: Suffolk has become newly popular with the Gentry. Noblemen and women alike, often come to the Edward's court which almost rivals that of the Royal family. Some see it as a getaway from their duties, some as a great place to meet potential lovers and spouses and some to network with other members of the Gentry. One thing they can all agree on, is if you want fun: you head to Suffolk; and Ferrers Court.

Now once again, the Fairfax family are finally being pushed back into the hearts and minds of the common people and of the Monarchy. Edward Fairfax intends to bring back the honour and glory of House Fairfax and to claim the recognition and reward that this historical family are owed.

The crest of Fairfax was originally a golden griffin upon a red shield, but when the family had mulitple marriages in a short period of time, with the Loren family: the Loren golden fleur de lys upon blue was quartered with the Fairfax crest; and it has remained so ever since.

Appearance: An unremarkable young woman in a family full of striking faces and figures, Catherine dresses simply, choosing solid colors with a minimum of adornment to her clothing. Her hair, a strange cross between blonde and brown, is always drawn away from her face, typically into a braid or braids that are crossed over the crown of her head.

Pale blue eyes shine bright in a milk-white complexion marred by some freckles. More petite than Victoria, she wishes for extra inches that she will never receive, both in terms of height and figure. Despite that, Catherine has cultivated a measure of grace in her movements and a soft musicality to her voice. She is not a beautiful girl and she knows it, the more for when she is standing beside her younger sister Victoria, or her cousin Aaliyah.

    Personality:

Edward calls her biddable. Victoria considers her stupid. Her cousins often view her as a mouse of a girl. Thomas, however, knows there is much more to the middle child than anyone, including him, knows.

Sometimes, there is truth to those words. Catherine is an obedient young woman to her brother Edward's dictates and expectations. She is not as shrewdly intelligent or witty as Victoria. Cat, as Thomas calls her, is quiet, shy, naive where her cousins are worldly, sophisticated and ambitious.

She is the little white lamb in a family of black sheep.

Contrary to her sister's stance, Catherine is far from unintelligent. She enjoyed her studies, though her talents lay more in the arts than the practical subjects of history, mathematics, and the sciences. Fond of reading, her tastes led her into castles built in the air thanks to her favorite romances. Catherine loves music; she is a very skilled player of the harp and the viol. When she sings, the servants take care not to interrupt so they may enjoy the music she makes. And as is considered appropriate for a Lady of exalted breeding, she is adept with her needle.

Unfortunately, she has a significant inferiority complex, being almost painfully shy and admittedly timid around strangers, helped along by her younger sister's mockery. It makes Catherine clumsy despite her ability to dance rather well. When she is nervous, she stammers until she blushes more red than the summer roses that climb the western wall of Suffolk Castle. And alas, Cat is a strange combination of feline curiosity and mouselike fears.

A dreamer of dreams, she is a born romantic, wishing for the fairy tale to come true and bring her not only a Prince Charming, but the happily ever after to go with it. In the meantime, Catherine serves her family as the household chatelaine until Edward marries, often remaining in Suffolk when they go to the ends of Tuneric about their business.

Perhaps some day, Catherine Fairfax will take the world by storm. It just will not be today... and tomorrow does not look so good for it either.

    Personal History:

As the third-born, Catherine was often overlooked. Thaddeus had two strong, healthy sons; the birth of a sickly girl held less than no interest to him. She was often left to the care of first nursemaids, then a nanny and finally a governess. At five years old, she was delighted when a sister was born; finally, she would not be the only girl. Surely with two daughters, they would not be ignored.

For a time, Catherine was blessed by the presence of a smart, impish and sunshiny little sister. They were close as they grew, though that swiftly changed; on Catherine's sixteenth birthday, Thaddeus announced that he had betrothed her to Sir Robert Morgan's son and heir. It put a visible and painful schism between Victoria and herself, made all the worse by her sister's belief that Cat's tendency to dream and her lack of political ambition rendered her less as a Fairfax, a woman and a sister.

Withdrawing into herself as a consequence, Catherine threw herself into the aspects of being a Fairfax woman that Victoria disdained. Helping her mother to tend the household, enveloping herself in music, dance and sewing, reading the fanciful tales that banished her loneliness, she stood apart from her siblings. The loss of her mother and Victoria's blossoming into a woman beautiful enough to rival Lea only added insult to her injury.

Closest to her brother Thomas, who stands as her protector, she has an understanding with Edward. He has not utterly dismissed her as Victoria has, aware that she makes up in observation and musicality what she lacks in beauty. Unfortunately, Thomas is seldom home, making for a very lonely Cat, one who hopes her marriage will provide her the happiness her life currently lacks.

    Writing Sample:

The game that afternoon left Elizabeth disheveled and flushed, prompting a retreat into the keep to ensure that she tidied herself and recovered her composure before she sought the Ladies of Welch Run. Intending to entreat them both to a walk in the cool of the evening and to explore their newly acquired lands, she made her way down to the main rooms in the hopes of locating one or both of the ladies. They were similar in appearance, yet Elizabeth observed that their personalities were markedly divergent. It promised to make for interesting friendships indeed, something she could use.

Keeping company with the young ladies would keep Adam from attempting to keep too close a watch on her. Her brother was a good man, an honorable man, but far too protective of his siblings. To wit, she was blessed by good fortune that kept him oblivious and ignorant to some of her more audacious antics, not that Elizabeth would ever prove foolish enough to attempt them under his nose or away from Aston. This simply was not the appropriate time or place to behave in any way save properly and correctly. First impressions could make quite a difference when it came to future dealings.
