    Post Games & Character Rules

    Game Rules:

    1. Respect. It's important. Please respect your staff members as well as your fellow players. If you can't do that, then perhaps you should find yourself another place to game.

    2. God-modding. God-modding is one of the cardinal sins of this sort of game, and will not be tolerated. If we find you have been engaging in this behavior, the posts will be removed and if necessary the character will be removed from play for editing. There are two main ways god-modding can happen, which are:
    1. Controlling another player's character without their explicit approval. This can mean putting words into another character’s mouth, moving them around or taking physical action, or deciding they’ll take damage in a fight scene, among many other things.
    2. Your character knowing it all, seeing it all, and/or being all powerful. This includes your character knowing something that you, the player, knows but that the character would have no way of knowing, or your characters acting on plot you, the player, knows will happen rather than what is happening to them in the moment.

    3. Rating. This game is rated L3, S3, V3 by http://rpgrating.com/. L = Language, S = Sexual Content, V = Violence. This game is not a porn site, but explicit content is allowed if the thread title is marked accordingly. Language, sexual content, and violence all happen and are a part of life in this game. If you plan on writing this type of thread, please ensure it's marked Mature, and remember that consent between all players involved is a requirement, not a request.

    4. Absence. If you plan on being unable to post for a week or longer, we ask that you let everyone know by posting in the appropriate thread with approximately how long you’ll be gone. This allows those you have threads with to plan accordingly, and ensures you will be included in any plotting or threads that you may otherwise miss.

    5. OOC drama. OOC (out of character) drama is not tolerated. If you’re having a problem with another player that cannot be resolved in a mature and respectful way, please take your complaint to a member of staff so that it can be dealt with.

    6. Copyright. Everything on this site is copyright the person who wrote it. No part of this writing may be taken and used elsewhere without express consent of the original author.

    7. Post and have fun. If you're here to explore the unknown, that's awesome! Don't forget to post. If you're here to have your character stay on the mainland and party, that's awesome too! Just don't forget to post. We love it when our members post, though we are also here to have fun. If the game has stopped being fun, we'd really appreciate it if you could contact us so we can see what we can do about changing that.

    Character Rules:

Note: These are rules. For Character Creation Guidelines, please see the Character Workshop Forum.

    1. No God-modding. It's so important that it made it on the rules twice. We mean it.

    2. Relationships. Relationships in this game are what you make them. If your character hates so-and-so, then that's fine. If not, that's fine too. But don't let IC events influence your OOC behavior. If you hate so-and-so, that's fine. But we strictly prohibit your OOC behavior influencing your IC events.
    • The marriage of characters is favorable in this game. After all, how can any progress be made in life without it? However, if a player does not consent, then another match may be in order. If a character is not willing, and the player is--well, have at it! We just don't want to force any player into a writing situation that they will not enjoy, or even be willing to accept. Again, consent is important, and we're here to have fun.

    • Family relationships are just as varied and messed up in this game as they can be in real life. A family that appears loving and happy in public might be rife with abuse behind closed doors...or it might actually be loving and happy. While there are familial norms within the game, there are not hard and fast family requirements.

    • Sex. If your character should choose to engage in sex, then please ensure to other player is willing and that the thread is marked accordingly. For anything we deem extreme, or at the players’ request, we may move your thread to a members-only forum.

    • Killing characters. If you want to kill your character, we ask that you please run it by us first. It is incredibly likely you’ll be allowed to do so, but there are many things to consider before a character is removed from the game in such a permanent fashion, and there may be alternatives you like better.

    3. Royal family. There is one crime punishable by death on Poltarus and that is being a traitor. Any attempt on the life of any member of the royal family will not be tolerated, and may result in the death of your character whether you want it or not. The monarchy is here to stay. If you wish to have your character die because you've become bored with him/her, please refer to the last bullet in rule 3. The focus of this game is not to take over and rule the land. Rather, we wish to focus on exploration, relationships, enjoying the festivities and having fun.

    4. Multiple characters. We encourage new players to begin the game by either creating or adopting a character in an established family, and any desire to do other than that should be run by the staff for approval. Once you get a feel for the game, you may create or pick up additional characters, but please be aware of your personal limits and avoid collecting so many characters that they end up neglected.

    Posting Rules:

    1. English language. We ask that all our players follow the standard rules of English to the best of their abilities. We understand that everybody isn’t going to be a spelling whiz, but this is a game that requires full sentences, punctuation, and good spelling. Chat speak, ie “l8r” or “lol”, leet speak, ie “l33t” or “w00t”, or any other informal languages are not allowed in posts, and we might judge you if you use them in OOC locations, too.

    2. Posting frequency. We do not enforce a strict posting frequency/post count. We do, however, ask that you don’t keep a thread waiting for more than a few days if at all possible. Prompt replies keep the game moving along, and are especially important in group threads, but we understand how life has a habit of getting in the way.

    3. Thread titles. All threads will be designated with appropriate titles. Give your thread a name, a date, a time, and who's supposed to appear, or a status if nobody is specified. For example: If You Say So, 2/15, afternoon, Stacey/Larry. OR Just As You Will Change, 2/16, Morning, Harriet/OPEN. Status can be interpreted as such:
OPEN: anybody is welcomed to join
CLOSED: Only those listed may join without approval from author by PM
SOLO: Only one character is posting a monologue. Nobody else may join.

    4. Replies. We don't have a reply word-count here, but you must ensure when a post is replied to, can these three questions be answered with a yes?
    • Did you answer the previous post(s)?

    • Did you leave something for your co-writer(s) to respond to?

If you answered YES to both questions, then you're good to go. If not, then please rethink your post and add what is necessary to fulfill the above requirements.
